If you haven’t heard already, Leah of It Girl Adventure is getting married! Everyone knows that any engagement calls for one thing first and foremost — gifts! I decided to make a pair of coffee mugs for the Mr. & Mrs. to-be with a little inspiration from Pinterest. All you need is a careful hand, a few supplies, and a warm oven to create your very own DIY coffee mug in a few short steps.
What you need:
– Two ceramic mugs
– Sharpies, in your color of choice
– Rubbing alcohol
– Clear nail polish (optional)
First, clean off all surfaces of the mug that you’ll be working on with rubbing alcohol to prepare your canvas. Once you’d decided on a design for your mug — I went with “Mr. Right & Mrs. Always Right” — carefully draw on all of the details of your design. Make sure you clean up any stray marks with rubbing alcohol. Some blogs suggest using a coat of clear nail polish to seal the design, but this didn’t work well for me.
The engagement date!
A little love in the bottom of the cup.
Next — once you finalized your design & let it dry for a few hours, place the mugs into a cold oven. Then, heat the oven to about 275 degrees and leave the mugs in for 20 minutes. Remove the mugs and let them cool.
Now you’ve got a finished set of homemade mugs ready to gift! You can obviously modify this design for any gifting situation — Father’s Day, birthdays, or even just because.
Congrats to the happy couple!
