Look of The Day: It’s Fall, Y’all

Fall is finally working it’s way into LA after what was arguably the HOTTEST & longest summer yet. Fall is without a doubt my favorite season – from pumpkin-flavored everything to boots & scarves, who can argue otherwise? Needless to say, I’m more than excited to break into my autumnal wardrobe!

Take a peek at my look of the day welcoming mild Fall weather into SoCal & my closet..

DIY: To The Future Mr. & Mrs.!

If you haven’t heard already, Leah of It Girl Adventure is getting married! Everyone knows that any engagement calls for one thing first and foremost — gifts! I decided to make a pair of coffee mugs for the Mr. & Mrs. to-be with a little inspiration from Pinterest. All you need is a careful hand, a few supplies, and a warm oven to create your very own DIY coffee mug in a few short steps.

What you need:

– Two ceramic mugs
– Sharpies, in your color of choice
– Rubbing alcohol
– Clear nail polish (optional)

IMG_0001

First, clean off all surfaces of the mug that you’ll be working on with rubbing alcohol to prepare your canvas. Once you’d decided on a design for your mug — I went with “Mr. Right & Mrs. Always Right” — carefully draw on all of the details of your design. Make sure you clean up any stray marks with rubbing alcohol. Some blogs suggest using a coat of clear nail polish to seal the design, but this didn’t work well for me.

The engagement date!

The engagement date!

A little love in the bottom of the cup.

Next — once you finalized your design & let it dry for a few hours, place the mugs into a cold oven. Then, heat the oven to about 275 degrees and leave the mugs in for 20 minutes. Remove the mugs and let them cool.

Now you’ve got a finished set of homemade mugs ready to gift! You can obviously modify this design for any gifting situation — Father’s Day, birthdays, or even just because.

Congrats to the happy couple!

Stunning Stars Grace Oscars Red Carpet

As always, the red carpet at this year’s Oscars did not disappoint. Watching from the comforts of my living room, I had a hard time selecting a worst-dressed pick from the red carpet but Lupita Nyong’o and Emma Watson topped my best-dressed list. Best Supporting Actress winner, Nyong’o, looked effortlessly polished in a soft, feminine gown, while Watson’s dazzling, slinky black dress showed us all that Hermione Granger really has grown up.

Nude fabrics and embellishments seemed to be a trend across the red carpet. Jennifer Lawrence put her own spin on an embellished neck piece with a backwards Neil Lane diamond necklace — but maybe that’s what led to her infamous red carpet trip. Take a look at my favorite looks from this Oscars Red Carpet.

Oscars

Kerry Washington: Jason Wu — Cate Blanchett: Giorgio Armani — Emma Watson: Vera Wang– Sandra Bullock: Alexander Mcqueen — Anne Hathaway: Gucci — Lupita Nyong’o: Prada — Jennifer Lawrence: Dior Couture

Who has your vote for best dressed from this year’s red carpet?!

Get The Look: Sequins, Sugar, & Everything Nice

maria sharapovaMaria Sharapova was spotted out and about in LA earlier this week at the launch of her very own Sugarpova Toppings for Pinkberry. The tennis superstar was sporting a feminine and polished ensemble featuring one of my all-time favorite things — sequins. The beautifully embellished Monique Lhuillier sequined blouse — hot off the runway & not even available for retail, quite yet — was paired perfectly with a Carven skirt and nude Louboutins.

This simple, yet elegant look is very different from Sharapova’s typical tennis court get-up, but is definitely on-trend and ideal for any daytime event. A soft colored lip, similar to the pink that Sharapova is wearing, is an easy way to finish off this girly and flirty ensemble.

Although this look is right up my alley, it’s way out of my budget. Never fear, I managed to pull together a similar look for less than a fraction of the price!

Check out my fab finds below to recreate Maria Sharapova’s dazzling look all on your own…

Under My Umbrella

If there’s one thing you can’t leave the house without on a rainy day, it’s an umbrella — that is if you have any chance of staying dry. This weekend LA is finally experiencing a change in weather — for the first time in MONTHS — and I’m sure Los Angelenos everywhere are scrambling to find the perfect rainy weather accessory. Check out a few stylish umbrellas — including a few splurge-worthy picks — I scrounged up to help keep you dry, no matter how hard the downpour may be!

The Cream Of The Crop: GRAMMYs 2014

As far as the red carpet was concerned, this year’s GRAMMYs did not disappoint. Even though my true style icon, Queen Bey, didn’t grace the red carpet — since she flawlessly opened the show with hubby Jay-Z — fabulousness was in no short supply. Sequins, glitz, and glam took center stage and stole the show, before the main show was even underway. Mom-to-be Ciara, Grammy newcomer Ariana Grande, as well as Grammy veteran Alicia Keys were just a few of the fiercest artists to grace The GRAMMYs 2014 red carpet.

Check out all of stars that made my best dressed list at last night’s GRAMMYs…

Grammys 2014

1. Anna Kendrick: Azzaro — 2. Ariana Grande: Dolce & Gabbana — 3. Miranda Lambert: Pamella Roland — 4. Ciara: Pucci — 5. Rita Ora: Lanvin — 6. Chrissy Teigen: Johanna Johnson — 7. Alicia Keys: Armani Prive — 8. Taylor Swift: Gucci

Who made your best dressed list?

Happy Monday!

Feel Like A Woman, Wear A Dress!

IMG_1499The iconic and timeless DVF wrap dress has officially made its stamp on LA with Diane von Furstenberg:Journey Of A Dress. The exhibit opened its doors on January 10th and I headed over this weekend to the check the 200 custom Pucci mannequins outfitted in some of DVF’s finest wrap dress. The historic May Co. department store building on Wilshire Blvd. has been transformed into a shrine to the almighty Diane von Furstenberg to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the wrap dress.

The walls of the corridor leading to the exhibit are covered in landmark photos of the wrap dress, as well as DVF — both the woman and the brand. It’s like you’re stepping back in time and walking through the history of Diane von Furstenberg. Over the past 40 years, the wrap dress has empowered millions women everywhere and has essentially become a piece of pop culture . Celebrities and many notable figures from the likes of Michelle Obama to Amy Winehouse have even been spotted out and about sporting a wrap dress by DVF.

Letter to Diane von Furstenberg from then Vogue Editor-In-Chief Diane Vreeland.

Once you make your way into the dress exhibit, you can feast your eyes on hundreds of wrap dresses in all corners. As I walked through the exhibit, I heard multiple women reminiscing to the first time they laid their eyes on a DVF wrap dress. My favorite dress from the exhibit — and believe me, it was a tough choice to make — was a floor-length black and white printed dress with a pop of color.

Glitter is a Girl’s Best Friend

In my humble opinion, the best way to wind down from a long day is to break out a bottle of trusty nail polish and give yourself an at-home mani. Feeling inspired by a post on Lo Bosworth’s Instagram, I decided to tackle my own gold ombré manicure.

Recreating this mani on your own is actually quite simple. Follow my steps below to make your lady fingers look like a million bucks!

What you need:

– Neutral polish

– Gold Glitter polish

– Base & Top Coat

image

First, start by applying two coats of a neutral colored polish — after a base coat, of course. I went with Tickle My France-y by OPI, but use whatever neutral tone floats your boat.

image

Next, lightly start applying the gold glitter nail polish about 2/3 of the way down your nail. As you get closer to the tip of the nail, apply the glitter a little thicker to create a gold tip. I used Julep’s Oscar glitter polish, but even gold powder will work perfectly.

image

Finally, clean up any excess polish and finish off with a top coat. Now you’re gold ombré mani is complete!

image

Now that you’re all set with a fresh new manicure, get out & paint the town red!

Look of The Day: Faux Leather Frenzy

Faux leather is a must have for the season and I’ve already added a few pieces to my wardrobe. I nabbed a pair of plum-colored faux leather shorts that are ideal for the mild Fall weather in LA. Adding a pair of tights will be a welcome and chic addition as the weather gets chillier — so that means 60 degrees here in the Sunshine State. Whether you’re looking to sport a skirt, a pair of shorts, or even a t-shirt, there’s no short supply of faux leather in any style to fulfill your needs.

Check out my faux leather look of the day
