Max Out On Maxis

To say that I live in dresses and skirts would be an understatement. Without a doubt, they’re my go-to choices when getting dressed for almost any occasion. Luckily, skirts never go out of style and this season that’s especially true!

Maxi skirts are popping up in everywhere! Maxis are easily one of the most versatile pieces of any wardrobe. You can dress them up or down, don one for work, or even sport one for date night or a night out. There’s no short supply on variety in terms of silhouette, print, or style. If you’re anything like me, you’ll easily become obsessed with maxis and fill your closet before you know it!

I shopped around and wrangled up a few fab finds of budget-conscious, yet style-conscious, maxi skirts…

Look Of The Day: Weekend Ready

Over Memorial Day weekend, I was fortunate enough to spend my days off being a tourist in my own hood with my sister. I take any semblance of vacation seriously, so I fully committed to my stay-cation and, of course, dressed accordingly. We hit up all of the touristy LA hotspots, including — but not limited to — Griffith Park Observatory, Duff’s Cake Mix, and Melrose Ave. To stay cool in the Cali sun, yet paparazzi ready — it is LA after all, so you never know — I pulled together this look of the day

Overall Overhaul

alessandra-ambrosio-overalls-h724

Overalls are making a comeback! 90’s kids everywhere can be heard rejoicing over the resurgence of the denim one-piece. Fashion-forward celebs like Alessandra Ambrosio, Alexa Chung, & Ashley Madewke have already been spotted out and about sporting this trend. Overalls were even recently seen walking the runways of Rebecca Minkoff, Ruffian, & 3.1 Phillip Lim and have made their way into stores just in time for Summer. From leather to prints to the classic denim look, this season’s overalls have been given a few updates to stay perfectly on trend.

While I don’t recommend just dusting off your old pair of childhood coveralls — but hey, do you — I do recommend having a little fun with this trend! Whether you’re going for an effortlessly casual look or a chic, put-together ensemble, styling and accessories will play a key part in painting the complete — or overall, see what I did there — picture. Alessandra Ambrosio — pictured to the left — opted for a more carefree look by pairing her denim overalls with wedges and a tank, while Ashley Madewke pulled together a very elegant look in a tailored pair of Top Shop overalls.

Before you completely shoot down the idea of bringing back overalls, take a peek at these fab finds

Look Of The Day: Casual Thursdays

Casual is my middle name and I, undoubtedly, carry that philosophy into my personal style. Since it’s not acceptable to wear a robe or slippers to the office — I’m still holding out hope for that one — I always try to find a way to look semi-professional, semi-stylish, but mostly comfortable on the job. To beat the heat today, I worked my ensemble around my favorite pair of casual — yet still fashionable — shorts. Check out my ‘Casual Thursday’ look of the day

Easy DIY: Shabby Chic Decor

This weekend I put together an easy DIY project to spruce up my bedroom. I love holding onto little mementos from vacations and tons of pictures, so I decided to make a new memory board to display them. I’ve seen several different lace & picture frame-type projects on Etsy and Pinterest, so I used those as inspiration to create a memory board of my own. The whole project took less than 30 minutes and cost no more than $20!

What you need:

– Vintage Picture Frame (I found mine for only $10 at Melrose Trading Post!)
– Lace
– Craft Glue
– Scissors

supplies

First, flip the frame over and place the lace over the frame. Be sure to cut off any excess lace…

Next, use craft glue to secure the lace in place on the frame…

Let the glue completely dry — it should turn clear once it’s finished drying. Now you’ve created your very own masterpiece!

I definitely suggest giving this DIY project a try! It’s so easy to customize and truly make it your own by choosing the perfect frame & color of lace for you. I can’t wait to add pictures to mine, but you can easily use this idea as an alternative for jewelry storage — or just as decoration on its own.

Happy crafting!

8779578e95d2b410_emma-watson.previewEmma Watson has come a long way in the style department since her early days in Harry Potter — how could we forget her House of Gryffindor cloak? The starlet was recently spotted out and about looking effortlessly chic in a Rag & Bone white dress and Steve Madden ankle boots. Accessorized with at Rebecca Minkoff cross body bag and Ray-Ban Wayfarers, this look is the perfect culmination of girly and edgy in the most carefree of ways.

Look Of The Day: Desk to Dinner

This week I hit the town with It Girl Leah to help London-based retailer Ted Baker celebrate 25 years of fashion fame at the Robertson Boulevard store in Beverly Hills. Style blogger Devon Rachel hosted the 25th anniversary bash, complete with a live DJ, drinks, and a celebratory storewide 25% off privilege rate for the evening. I had to head straight from work to the soiree, so I planned accordingly and only needed to change from flats to wedges to be party ready.

Get The Look: Ball Out Like Rihanna

celeb-trend01Bad girl RiRi, the style icon as always, was spotted out and about in New York last week in a must-have Balmain Mint Green Leather Skirt, Balmain Printed Silk Blouse, and Pointed Toe Louboutins. Her look totaled upwards of $7,000, — cue “Pour It Up” — but if you’re ballin’ on a budget like myself that price tag seems extremely astronomical! Never fear, I’ve found a few pieces to pull together a similar look for less than a fraction of the price.

Leather, in a variety of colors, is a definite trend this season and can be found at just about every retailer for a reasonable price. The skater style skirt, sported by Rihanna, is also a clear front runner in silhouettes, making this look all the easier to duplicate. After a little online shopping — one of my favorite past times — at a few of my top shops I wrangled up a leather skirt, printed blouse, and pointed toe heels that could give RiRi’s look a run for her money.

Don’t forget to add a few accessories to really make the look your own. No matter the size of your wallet, you should never have to sacrifice your sense of style!
