Look Of The Day: Weekend Ready

Over Memorial Day weekend, I was fortunate enough to spend my days off being a tourist in my own hood with my sister. I take any semblance of vacation seriously, so I fully committed to my stay-cation and, of course, dressed accordingly. We hit up all of the touristy LA hotspots, including — but not limited to — Griffith Park Observatory, Duff’s Cake Mix, and Melrose Ave. To stay cool in the Cali sun, yet paparazzi ready — it is LA after all, so you never know — I pulled together this look of the day

Spring Has Sprung

Fellow broke girls, Spring is upon us and that means one thing…Spring-ifying your wardrobe. While this may seem like a daunting task if you’ve recently glanced at your checking account and feel more like MC Hammer post-bankruptcy than a baller–no disrespect Pastor Hammer–let me assure you that this can all be done without breaking the bank. With this simple guide you’ll be rocking my choice Spring trends for this year —lace, florals, and leather— in no time at all.

1. LACE

One of my favorite trends for Spring–and in general–is lace. It popped up all over the Spring 2013 runways and is now making its way into stores. Although lace is a thing of the past, it’s making its way back into closets this year by way of new, chic silhouettes. I snagged a pair of black lace shorts from H&M for less than $20–talk about a STEAL! These shorts are such a versatile piece and necessary for any Spring wardrobe. I’ve worn them to work, the beach, or for a night out, and they transition well into any setting. Pair them with a chambray top for a casual look, with wedges for a more dressed up, sassy ensemble, or with Tom’s for a casual, carefree outfit. All in all, I’d say I’m getting my money’s worth!

2. FLORALS

Like any girly-girl, I’ve been a fan of florals since birth. Floral prints are definitely a thing of the 90’s, but are making their way back with a vengeance and just in time for festival season. One of my favorite floral pieces from my closet is a vintage–circa 2010–floral maxi skirt from Old Navy that I’m sure to be caught sporting this Spring. While I’m not usually the biggest Old Navy fan, this skirt was quite the find, costing me only about $8. Urban Outfitters and Target both have to-die-for floral options for under $30–a printed chambray shirt and floral pants, just to name a few–that will definitely put some spring in your step, no matter your sense of style.

3. LEATHER

Last, but not certainly not least, comes a little something to throw some edge into your wardrobe–leather. Now of course we’re not talking about real leather here because if I could afford that, then you wouldn’t be reading this blog. My Topshop faux leather leggings became a winter staple for me and I’ll definitely be transitioning them into spring–and they’re just $36 at Nordstrom! Styled with a coral or peach colored top and a pair of nude wedges, they make for the perfect spring ensemble.

Add a little bit of edge to your Spring looks this season.
