Match Made in Heaven: 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target

If you haven’t heard all of the hype surrounding 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target yet, then listen up! The much anticipated designer collaboration hits Target stores September 15th but fashion blogs everywhere are already buzzing and rejoicing about the collection. The line features mens’s and women’s clothing in everything from handbags, to dresses, to slacks and jackets. From the looks of things, Phillip Lim has translated all that the brand is known and loved for into affordable styles. The average item from the collection is priced around $50 — which is a HUGE markdown compared to 3.1 Phillip Lim’s typical price point.

Check out my top five fave looks from the 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target lookbook and let the clothes speak for themselves…

Overall Overhaul

alessandra-ambrosio-overalls-h724

Overalls are making a comeback! 90’s kids everywhere can be heard rejoicing over the resurgence of the denim one-piece. Fashion-forward celebs like Alessandra Ambrosio, Alexa Chung, & Ashley Madewke have already been spotted out and about sporting this trend. Overalls were even recently seen walking the runways of Rebecca Minkoff, Ruffian, & 3.1 Phillip Lim and have made their way into stores just in time for Summer. From leather to prints to the classic denim look, this season’s overalls have been given a few updates to stay perfectly on trend.

While I don’t recommend just dusting off your old pair of childhood coveralls — but hey, do you — I do recommend having a little fun with this trend! Whether you’re going for an effortlessly casual look or a chic, put-together ensemble, styling and accessories will play a key part in painting the complete — or overall, see what I did there — picture. Alessandra Ambrosio — pictured to the left — opted for a more carefree look by pairing her denim overalls with wedges and a tank, while Ashley Madewke pulled together a very elegant look in a tailored pair of Top Shop overalls.

Before you completely shoot down the idea of bringing back overalls, take a peek at these fab finds

Get The Look: Ball Out Like Rihanna

celeb-trend01Bad girl RiRi, the style icon as always, was spotted out and about in New York last week in a must-have Balmain Mint Green Leather Skirt, Balmain Printed Silk Blouse, and Pointed Toe Louboutins. Her look totaled upwards of $7,000, — cue “Pour It Up” — but if you’re ballin’ on a budget like myself that price tag seems extremely astronomical! Never fear, I’ve found a few pieces to pull together a similar look for less than a fraction of the price.

Leather, in a variety of colors, is a definite trend this season and can be found at just about every retailer for a reasonable price. The skater style skirt, sported by Rihanna, is also a clear front runner in silhouettes, making this look all the easier to duplicate. After a little online shopping — one of my favorite past times — at a few of my top shops I wrangled up a leather skirt, printed blouse, and pointed toe heels that could give RiRi’s look a run for her money.

Don’t forget to add a few accessories to really make the look your own. No matter the size of your wallet, you should never have to sacrifice your sense of style!

Look Of The Day: Pastels, Nude, & Leather

Tuesdays are no fun–you’re farther away from the past weekend, yet no closer to the upcoming one all at the same time–but that’s no reason to be in a fashion funk.

Once I unwillingly got out of bed this morning–after hitting the snooze button at least three times–I managed to pull together a Spring look mixing a tad bit of edge into my typically feminine style. Check out my look of the day

Keep powering through the work week with a little leather and a few pops of color.

What’s everyone else wearing today??

Spring Has Sprung

Fellow broke girls, Spring is upon us and that means one thing…Spring-ifying your wardrobe. While this may seem like a daunting task if you’ve recently glanced at your checking account and feel more like MC Hammer post-bankruptcy than a baller–no disrespect Pastor Hammer–let me assure you that this can all be done without breaking the bank. With this simple guide you’ll be rocking my choice Spring trends for this year —lace, florals, and leather— in no time at all.

1. LACE

One of my favorite trends for Spring–and in general–is lace. It popped up all over the Spring 2013 runways and is now making its way into stores. Although lace is a thing of the past, it’s making its way back into closets this year by way of new, chic silhouettes. I snagged a pair of black lace shorts from H&M for less than $20–talk about a STEAL! These shorts are such a versatile piece and necessary for any Spring wardrobe. I’ve worn them to work, the beach, or for a night out, and they transition well into any setting. Pair them with a chambray top for a casual look, with wedges for a more dressed up, sassy ensemble, or with Tom’s for a casual, carefree outfit. All in all, I’d say I’m getting my money’s worth!

2. FLORALS

Like any girly-girl, I’ve been a fan of florals since birth. Floral prints are definitely a thing of the 90’s, but are making their way back with a vengeance and just in time for festival season. One of my favorite floral pieces from my closet is a vintage–circa 2010–floral maxi skirt from Old Navy that I’m sure to be caught sporting this Spring. While I’m not usually the biggest Old Navy fan, this skirt was quite the find, costing me only about $8. Urban Outfitters and Target both have to-die-for floral options for under $30–a printed chambray shirt and floral pants, just to name a few–that will definitely put some spring in your step, no matter your sense of style.

Florals are back--and better than ever--this season.

3. LEATHER

Last, but not certainly not least, comes a little something to throw some edge into your wardrobe–leather. Now of course we’re not talking about real leather here because if I could afford that, then you wouldn’t be reading this blog. My Topshop faux leather leggings became a winter staple for me and I’ll definitely be transitioning them into spring–and they’re just $36 at Nordstrom! Styled with a coral or peach colored top and a pair of nude wedges, they make for the perfect spring ensemble.

Add a little bit of edge to your Spring looks this season.
